Marlene Mouton


Principal & Mathematics Teacher

Principal and Teacher Marlene is a distinguished educator with 30 years of teaching and tutoring experience in Mathematics and the Sciences. Holding a BSc.Ed from RAU, she has made significant strides in South African education by introducing the Japanese Abacus system through her initiative, A⁺ Students SA. She is the author of over 40 Mathematics based books and developed the A⁺ Play Maths program, which advocates for a tactile & kinesthetic learning experience.


She is the founder of A⁺ Academy SA, with branches in Rustenburg and Bloemfontein.


God is the cornerstone of her life. She is a devoted family person. Marlene takes great pride in her children's educational journeys, with her daughter an aspiring equestrian and her son pursuing a BSc in Physics & Computer Science.

Kaylin Govender

Deputy Principal & A+Students Abacus Math Acting-Franchisee


Kaylin has a track record of successful teaching and education reform and has been teaching children of all ages for over six years. She grew up in a family of teachers, which inspired her to take on tutoring and mentoring roles as early as 13 years old. 


By the time she was 16 years old she was already known as an excellent tutor for Afrikaans throughout her community. During Mrs. Govender’s career path she has also headed many efforts to expand the curriculum to engage students at different competencies, as well as learners with special needs and learning difficulties such as ADHD, autism and dyslexia.


She is an educator with vision, passion and purpose, she loves inspiring, empowering and impacting the lives of her students.

Deputy Principal

Trish Ellis


Senior Teacher for English, Business Studies and ICT, Noordheuwel


Trish Ellis worked for many years in the corporate world doing shipping control and financial accounting. After being called into the world of education, she found her passion for teaching, especially languages, art and computer literacy. She has gained experience teaching at independent Christian schools, tutoring home school students doing various curriculums as well as extra lessons to learners from grade 4 to 12.

Her qualifications include a UNISA 4 year degree (Intermediate to Senior phase), Damelin/ICBA Financial Accounting National Diploma, TEFL as well as various computer related diplomas and certificates.

Her greatest passions other than teaching are family, animals, plants and nature in general.

She strongly believes in teaching according to the individual learning style of the student and supporting them that have any learning difficulties. Trish strives to create a positive learning environment for each student, considering their unique individual needs, encouraging social skills, love for nature and all of Gods creation.

 

Lindie Liebenberg

Afrikaans, Global Perspectives and head of A+ Music School

Lindi Liebenberg joins A⁺Academy as the new Afrikaans, Geography, History, and Music teacher, bringing her rich educational background from the University of Pretoria and her SACE registration. Her extensive teaching experience in various settings has shaped her adaptive, student-focused teaching style. Beyond academics, Lindi is actively involved in music, outdoor activities, and community services. As the head of A⁺Academy's Music School, she is dedicated to fostering both academic and personal growth in students.


 

Amber Lessing

Meet Teacher Amber, a dedicated and passionate educator with over 15 years of teaching experience. Driven by a desire to create a safe and nurturing environment for her students, she has made it her mission to make a positive impact on the lives of the children she teaches.


With a fun-loving and spontaneous approach to education, Amber brings creativity and enthusiasm to the classroom. Outside of teaching, she expresses her artistic side through photography, drawing, and painting.


Her dedication to her students and her craft has earned her a reputation as a compassionate and effective educator. She continues to inspire and motivate her students, helping them grow into confident and curious learners.


 


Kim Sham

Hi ,my name is Kim Sham and I am very excited to be part of the A+ Academy team.


I have worked with children of all ages for over 7 years and I have completed my TELF certificate.


I love teaching and I enjoy bringing out the creative side of learning.My goal is to make a creative environment in which all students can learn and grow in.


Teaching children is an honour God has blessed me with with.


 

Johannah Motsile

FOUNDATION & PRIMARY PHASE LEARING SUPPORT

Johannah graduated as an ECD level 4 Educator, and has also studied Educare N4 to N6. She had 6 years experience in a preschool before joining our A+ family. She is currently working as a classroom assistant in both the Grade RR – Grade 1 class, as well as the Grade 2 and 3 class. She adores working with children, and they gravitate towards her because of her caring and gentle nature. Johannah is keen on furthering her education and will grasp any opportunity that comes her way.


Maujean van Vollenhoven 


Foundation Phase Stage 2 & 3 Teacher 


I am very excited to be part of the A+ Academy team.

I have worked with children for over 10 years and I have completed my Diploma in teaching and currently working towards my degree in teaching foundation phase. 

I love teaching and I enjoy seeing how my kids grow and learn and explore with me. My mission is to create a happy and safe environment in which all students can learn and grow in.

Teaching children is a great passion in my life and God has given me this great gift and opportunity to work with children.



 

Leoni Lombard 


Science, History & Geography Teacher Stage 2-7


Leoni has taught a range of subjects over the years, but in the latter years taught mainly Science and Mathematics for Grades 4-7. She loves nature, animals, reading, music and art, and has a great interest in finding unknown facts and places on the internet.

She is a dedicated teacher, who strives to bring out the best in each student: academically as well as helping students to grow personally.

Jana Jacobs 


IGCSE Chemistry Online Teacher


Jana is a passionate and highly qualified Chemistry teacher. She completed a BSc (Honours) degree in Chemistry through Stellenbosch University. After working as a chemical analyst for two years, she decided to pursue a career in education and completed her PGCE with distinction. She has over 13 years of teaching experience at physical schools and online schools. 

Jana has extensive experience in teaching IGCSE and AS-level Chemistry for the Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel curricula. 

She believes that Chemistry is the most amazing subject if taught with passion and understanding. With her love for Chemistry and Science and her passion for education, she strives to nurture an understanding and appreciation for nature and its wonders.

Zandrè Ras


IGCSE Physics ,Coding Stage 4-7 $ Rubix Cube Tutor


Zandré is a dedicated Physics and Coding tutor at A+ Academy Noordheuwel since 2020, and is known for his passion for teaching and his strong connection with students. He introduced and teaches the Rubik's Cubing subject for grades 3–8, achieving outstanding results. Zandré also developed the curriculum and trained teachers in our other Academies over the years. He is currently pursuing a BSc in Physics and Computer Science at North-West University.

Tyler Komen 


Drama, public speaking , rubix cubing and art teacher. 


Tyler has been teaching for 5 years and in that time has had the pleasure of freelancing for several schools like A+ Students Academy, Trinity House and others. She has also helped prepare many students for Eisteddfods with a lot of them achieving top of their category. She is very enthusiastic about the arts. She believes it is the key to a well-rounded education. She is adamant about having a safe space where children can explore the true depths of their creativity. 

Tyler started performing with the drama group Dramabuzz. From there she went to study at Stageworx performing arts school. She furthered her education with Trinity college London. Through Trinity college London Tyler received her grade 8 in Musical theatre, Her ATCL Level 4 diploma in performance arts and her LTCL degree in performance Arts. She also received her dramatic arts teaching degree through Rock School. She then went on to become the director and producer of Dramabuzz Senior as well as a performance arts teacher and art teacher

She is well experienced with many art mediums, including: pen, charcoal, acrylic paint, tonal drawings and ceramic painting. She also has a wide range of experience painting and building sets for stage productions.

Tyler writes plays and poetry and hopes to encourage the youth of South Africa to nurture the skill of creative writing. 

Tyler has directed many plays and overseen many school showcases. Her directing experience includes Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, The Importance of Being Earnest, Pygmalion, Beauty is a Beast and Toad of Toad Hall.

ilani Pretorius



 Physical Education Coach

 

Meet Ilani, a dynamic leader in the world of hockey coaching and a dedicated entrepreneur! With a robust background in the corporate financial services industry, Ilani made a bold transition into the realm of diploma in theology. Her journey into coaching began when her children were in primary school, sparking a passion that led her to become a certified SAHA level 2b hockey coach.

Over the years, Ilani has made a significant impact on the lives of countless young athletes, coaching at various schools, districts, and clubs. Her commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a love for the game is evident in every session she leads. Today, she proudly owns her own hockey academy, where her energetic and motivational approach inspires the next generation of hockey players to reach their full potential.

Not only is Ilani a coach, but she is also an active player, still competing in club and provincial hockey as well as a brand ambassador for Princess Hockey South Africa. Since 2022, she has taken on the role of sports coach for A+ Students, further showcasing her dedication to excellence in both academics and sports.


SJ Breytenbach 


Chess Coach


SJ studied at the University of Potch ( Pukke) to obtain his Degree in Recreation and Tourism after that he continued to do his Honours Degree in Recreation and Tourism. He continued studying at UNISA and did is Education Diploma. He was a qualified teacher at a primary school in Krugersdorp for a couple of years. He decided to follow his passion in Chess and started his own business SJ Skaak Akademie to work with children through Chess. For the last 19 years he is a Professional Chess Coach who are working with a couple of primary and secondary schools in the West Rand to develop chess players and help them enjoy chess. He was also part of the JMC Provincial team for coaching at the SAJCC. SJ, is also a qualified Mini Chess Teacher as well a qualified Chess Arbiter ( Chess Referee and Tournament organizer). For the last two years (2023 and 2024) he received an Award for the Best Mini Chess Teacher in South Africa. He has 36 years of personal chess experience and he played a couple off times for his province in the South African jnr Chess Competition. There is a lot of children who came through his Chess Academy to play for there province and even for South Africa. SJ, has a PASSION for Chess and a PASSION to make a difference through Chess.

I started teaching A+ Abacus maths classes 8 years ago. It helped me realise my love for teaching children and help them grow to their full potential. That became my drive and passion. Starting A+ Academy was the result thereof. Through my skills I fulfill my dream of creating an environment for kids to thrive and reach their full potential.



Charline Pieterse

Charline has a B.ED foundation phase degree. She is our grade R teacher.


She has been A grade R teacher for the past 14 years. Charline has a passion for children and believes that you must teacher  child to believe in themselves no matter what their ability.

Monique Terblanche

I’m teaching at A+ Academy in Rustenburg. I have 10 year experience in teaching Foundation phase learners. I’m a very thoughtful teacher who puts a lot of thought Into how I present the material, so I’m finding the Cambridge curriculum a total delight. I like to get to know my learners weakest and strongest areas it’s a great platform to develop them. 

Irene Hattingh

I received my B.Ed degree in 2013. Children are my passion. I love to see how they grow and gain confidence. For the past two years, I have been part of A+ Academy, and what a pleasure it is. Teaching in small groups and learning through play is most definitely effective
